American Fogies Volume 1 $15 per
disc
This is an anthology of the diverse and potent traditional music found
in America. It includes Native American music, the music of the early
Scotch-Irish settlers, the blues of African-Americans, Texas Polish
songs and Italian songs. A Chicano song, a Tejano accordion piece,
a Colombian Vallenato song and a New Mexican song written by an energetic
74 year old illustrate the Spanish influence. A Klezmer medley celebrates
the Russian Jewish wedding tradition while Cajun and Creole music
evokes Louisiana. These musicians are behind-the-times American fogies,
playing and singing with a passion that broadcasts a powerful sound

The Humdingers $15 per disc
Featuring the powerhouse fiddling of Brad Leftwich and fueled by the
superb rhythm section of Bob Herring on guitar, Randy Marmouze on
banjo and Linda Higginbotham on banjo uke, The Humdingers were a group
of friends from Bloomington, Indiana, who also happened to be some
of the finest old-time musicians in the country. After Brad won first-place
fiddle and the band won first-place traditional band at the 1990 Appalachian
String Band Festival in Clifftop, West Virginia, the group went on
to play semi-professionally for several years joined by the incomparable
Dirk Powell on bass. Included here are 12 newly mastered cuts from
their only release, the 1992 cassette First Take (Yodel-Ay-Hee 007)
along with 10 cuts recorded live in 1993 with banjo ace Ray Alden.
This CD is dedicated to old-time music lovers everywhere with the
assurance that every cut is a real humdinger! Track

"Congratulations! "The World In Our Backyard was just awarded the
HOT PLATTER award from among the thousands of CDs we carry in our
catalog." – David Kanistanaux, Sidestreet Music, 1998
"The ubiquitous Ray Alden, America's premier ethnographer-without-portfolio,
has done it again! This time he's complied a delectable sampler
of music from the ethnic neighborhoods in and around New York: Bulgarian
wedding music with Yuri Yunakov, huayno music from Peru, some young
guns of Irish music, and tunes from Jordan, Thailand, Portugal,
Hungary, the Ukraine and elsewhere. A killer sampler and a remarkable
document of our cultural diversity." – Elderly Instruments

– The Appalachian String Band Music Festival Clifftop WV
$15 per disc
"Ray Alden has done a superb job in assembling this 24-cut
overview of old time string music today, as reflected by the groups
who make the annual trek to a Mecca for the music in Clifftop, West
Virginia. It includes many standouts, and I find myself going back
repeatedly to tracks by the Ill-Mo Boys, Melvin Wine, the L-7s,
Dan Gellert and Brad Leftwich. An all-around FINE job on this project."
– Dave Freeman, County & Rebel records
