Ten years after the first volume of The Young Fogies (Rounder 0319) was issued, Volume II continues the exploration of the revival of old-time Appalachian string band and Cajun music as played and sung by a mostly new generation of musicians. Dixie Hummingbirds CDROUN0379– American Fogies Volume 1 $15 per disc
This is an anthology of the diverse and potent traditional music found in America. It includes Native American music, the music of the early Scotch-Irish settlers, the blues of African-Americans, Texas Polish songs and Italian songs. A Chicano song, a Tejano accordion piece, a Colombian Vallenato song and a New Mexican song written by an energetic 74 year old illustrate the Spanish influence. A Klezmer medley celebrates the Russian Jewish wedding tradition while Cajun and Creole music evokes Louisiana. Ross County Farmers CD1011– The Humdingers  $15 per disc
Featuring the powerhouse fiddling of Brad Leftwich and fueled by the superb rhythm section of Bob Herring on guitar, Randy Marmouze on banjo and Linda Higginbotham on banjo uke, The Humdingers were a group of friends from Bloomington, Indiana, who also happened to be some of the finest old-time musicians in the country. After Brad won first-place fiddle and the band won first-place traditional band at the 1990 Appalachian String Band Festival in Clifftop, West Virginia, the group went on to play semi-professionally for several years joined by the incomparable Dirk Powell on bass. Included here are 12 newly mastered cuts from their only release, the 1992 cassette First Take (Yodel-Ay-Hee 007) along with 10 cuts recorded live in 1993 with banjo ace Ray Alden. CD1006– The Brandywine Mountain Music Convention   $15 per disc
This CD is an anthology of twenty years of recordings made at the Brandywine Mountain Music Convention, which each year focusing on a state such as West Virginia, or on a genre such as "old time radio." A homage to the great center of North Carolina old time music with two of its best singers, Mac Snow and Scotty East, and two of the best young fiddlers of the revival, Bruce Molsky and Brad Leftwich. Heywood Blevins 5SP05001– The Southern Schoolhouse Rascals – Old School, Mountain Style  $15 per disc
Old School, Mountain Style is the debut CD for this fine mid-atlantic band. This CD features lots of great singing and playing.
